It's the most wonderful time of the year.... (almost!!)

I can't wait for November 1st. Do you want to know why?

November 1st is my official "I can finally listen to Christmas music all day every day and whenever else I want" day (you know, excluding the day in July when I randomly play a song or two). Boyfriend thinks I am crazy, and doesn't want to hear anything about Christmas until after Thanksgiving, but I just can't help it! It is my absolute fave time of the year and I need to make it last as long as possible! The music is a-mazing!

Christmas in my family is awesome. My immediate fam, aunts, uncles, and cousins all live near by so traditionally, we spend every Christmas together. Usually we have a party at my uncle's house for Christmas Eve and on Christmas Day everyone gathers at my parent's house for dinner and a yankee swap.

About 3 or 4 years ago now, my cousins and I decided one Christmas eve that we didn't want to get all dressed up on Christmas day when we are all tired and enjoying the day, so we decided that it would be appropriate for everyone in the family to wear their pajamas to the Christmas dinner and Yankee Swap. The first year most of us wore our pajamas and since it was so fun and comfortable the next year everyone did! During the second year, my uncle, who has a crazy sense of humor, bought his two daughters a crazy princess and fish hat as part of their Christmas gifts (mind you my cousins were 22 and 29 at the time, respectively). My cousins, who share their dad's crazy sense of humor, wore their hats along with their pajamas. The remainder of my cousins and I couldn't help but be a little jealous about their fab hats (haha) so the next year we decided to turn it into a CRAZY HAT pajama party... and that's what it has been ever since!

Here are some of my fave pictures of all of us cousins in our crazy hats and pjs:

The Yankee Swap that we host has a bit of a tradition too. A Yankee Swap, in case you haven't heard of it, is when each person comes with a wrapped gift. Then everyone picks a number out of a hat and picks out a present in that order. They unwrap the gift, then if they choose to, they can either keep it or swap it with someone who has already opened a gift. At the end, the person who picked number one gets to choose from any of the gifts. It ends up to be pretty funny because people get protective over their gifts and you need to strategically choose because if you pick the most popular thing then it is probably going to get taken from you! Anyway, the same uncle who bought his daughters the hat, usually brings an unusually large odd shaped Yankee Swap gift that everyone is intrigued by. Everyone wants to choose the biggest thing. Although when they open it, instead of finding a cool gift they usually find a rooster! This past year it was a stuffed animal rooster and the year before it was a rooster holding a golf club. The rooster then becomes a permanent fixture in one of my relatives house for the rest of the year. I don't know the significance of why he chooses a rooster and I really have no idea where he finds them. He also puts about 15 or 20 dollars worth of scratch tickets with it though, so it still ends up to be a hot item. The infamous rooster is a popular guy.

Here are some pics of the roosters!

(these are from two different years but they look exactly alike!)

As you can probably tell, family is crazy, but I love them all more than any things and Christmas Day at my house never has a dull moment! I wouldn't have it any other way!

(Tell me about your Christmas traditions and had on over to The Design Girl to link up to Mr Linky!)

  1. How FUN. Thanks for playing along!
